Assignment Submission Guidelines:

All papers and original pieces must employ MLA research paper format for margins, spacing, heading, title, and page numbers. MLA paper format is summarized as follows:

Modern Language Association (MLA) Basic Paper Format
(Also found on pp. 94-96 of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 4th ed.)

  • Use standard-sized paper, 8.5 X 11 inches.
  • Set all margins (top, bottom, and sides) at one inch.
  • Type the paper double-spaced and left-justified (all text lined up along the left margin).
  • Do not submit a separate title page. On the first page, beginning in the upper left corner at the margin and one inch from the top of the page, type the following information, double-spaced:

    Your name

    Kenn Pierson

    LIT 112B

    Date

  • Double space after the date, then type the title, centered. In the title, use upper and lower case letters (i.e., capitalize only first letters of key words). Do NOT underline or put quotation marks around your title (use those marks only if the title of another work happens to appear in your title). For example:

Edwards' Anger in "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"

The Character of Uncle Tom in Uncle Tom's Cabin

  • Double space after the title, then begin the text of the paper.
  • Indent the first line of each paragraph five spaces.
  • Number each page (including the first page) in the upper right corner, one-half inch from the top of the page. Include your last name before the number. For example:

    Gonzales 2
