Submitting an Attachment in WebCT

Selected assignments in ENG 101 need to be submitted as attachments. That's because some assignments need to demonstrate your ability to use MLA formatting (one-inch margins, double spacing, indentation, etc.), and attachments preserve MLA formatting.

Submitting your assignment as an attachment is easy in WebCT. However, it is not a one-step procedure. You need to be sure to follow each step:

  1. Open "Course E-mail" in WebCT.

  2. Select "Compose Mail Message."

  3. On the "Send to" line, select "Browse" to find Kenn's e-mail address. Highlight Kenn's address and click "Done." Kenn's address will now appear in the "Send to" window of your e-mail message.

  4. In the "Subject" window, type in the appropriate title of the assignment (provided on each assignment instruction page under "How do I submit this assignment?").

  5. In the "Message" window, type in any message you wish to accompany the attachment. NOTE: WebCT will not allow you to send the e-mail without a brief message.

  6. Beneath the "Message" window, beside the Image of Paper Clip big, red paper clip, select "Browse." This enables you to browse through the files on your computer's hard drive (or disk/CD Rom) to locate the assignment file you wish to send Kenn. After locating the assignment file, select and double click it (or select "Open"). The name of your file will appear in the window beside the Image of Paper Clip big, red paper clip.

  7. Select "Attach file." In a moment, the name of your attached file will appear immediately under the "Attach file" button.

  8. You are now ready to send your e-mail with attachment. Select "Send." Your message has been sent.
Reading an Attachment in WebCT

When you receive an e-mail message with an attachment in WebCT, simply double-click the Image of Paper Clip big, red paper clip. This will initiate a file download that allows you to save the attachment document where you wish:

  1. Select the radio button beside the name of the attachment.

  2. Select "Download." The attachment has now been downloaded onto your hard drive (or disk/CD Rom).

  3. Select "Close."

  4. Open the file where you have saved it on your computer.
