Now that you have drafted the First Version of your argumentative research paper, it's time to pat yourself on the back. You have completed one of the most important phases of the main journey. You have "filled the blank screen" or the "blank page" with text. That's the most frightening part for many writers. From here on out, the road becomes only wider as you continue to develop the ideas in your research paper. In Phase 6, you may want to add more main points to your paper. You undoubtedly will add more evidence to support your existing subpoints. It's also important to add a background section--just after your introduction--that provides some basic background information for your readers' benefit. Yes, now it is time to make those large-scale changes that will dramatically improve your paper and make it more convincing! Realistically, Phase 6 of the research paper process often requires you to write several more revisions of your paper before you submit your final version. However, for this class, you need to write only one more version of your paper (Paper: Second Version) before proceeding to Phase 7 (Paper: Final Version). Begin by learning more about how a second version (and subsequent versions) of a paper differ from a final version. |
