Be sure you have written "--Second Version" after your title, to
distinguish this submission from the first version.
- This version should be 7-8 pages long (including the Works Cited page),
which is slightly longer than your first version but not as long as your
final version.
- Be sure you have included a background section, which is one of the
important new additions to this version of your paper. A background section
ordinarily appears after your introduction paragraph. It should be no
longer than one to two paragraphs for a paper of this length. A background
section should offer definitions of important terms you use in the
paper (define key words in your thesis, in particular), provide a
brief history of your topic, provide an overview of the debate on
which this argument is founded (by encapsulating the various viewpoints held
by the major players in the debate), provide basic facts about your
topic, or provide other general information about your topic for your
readers' benefit.
- Each part of your paper should look "better" than it did in your first
version; this pertains to your introduction, your three main point
discussions, and your conclusion. You will be scored on how each of these
parts is "MORE COMPELLING" than in your first version. (See Assignment 6A
Scoring Criteria for details.)
- Whether or not you need to rearrange your paragraphs or reword your main
points and subpoints, you WILL BE EXPECTED to have MORE EVIDENCE for each of
your main points and subpoints.
- Expectations go up with each new version of your paper, and so does the
grading standard. A paper that received an "A" for Assignment 5A will NOT
automatically receive an "A" for Assignment 6A if no changes have been made. Assignment
6A requires major revision of your paper.
